Ruth Darlene Dickerson, 78, of Peoria, passed away at 8:07 a.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at Bel-Wood Nursing Home in Peoria County.
Her funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 3, 2012, at Hanna City United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with Pastor Robert L. DeBolt officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., prior to services at the church. Interment will be at Smithville Cemetery in Hanna City.
Ruth was born in Amesville, OH on September 24, 1933, a daughter of Glenn E. and Hazel M. (Roberts) King. She married Roy Dickerson on November 28, 1959 in Peoria. He preceded her in death on May 18, 1996. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one grandson.

When Ruth was young, she lived a very active life. She enjoyed traveling and entertaining listeners on the radio, while playing guitar and singing with her beautiful voice. She and Roy loved entertaining their friends. They both loved golfing and she was a member at Timberlake Golf Club, until her health no longer permitted.
She was formerly employed at WABCO and later, for twenty-four years until her retirement from KL Burgett Co. in Peoria.
Ruth enjoyed playing cards; reading; listening to Big Band and Country music, especially Alan Jackson; collecting miniature shoes; watching the Indianapolis 500 and Chicago Cubs baseball; traveling to Biloxi; going to Gil’s Supper Club; and attending family events, especially Thanksgiving, Christmas and reunions.
She was a wonderful grandmother and always loved being with family. She was very fond of her cats - even the most unlovable cats known to man, were safe and well taken care of by her. She was patient, caring and loving.
Memorial contributions may be made in Ruth’s memory to her church or to Smithville Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Clary Funeral Home, 3004 West Lake Avenue, in Peoria.
